French Connection installs four DynaScan High Brightness LCD’s in flagship London stores

To promote its high profile autumn/winter campaign, French Connection recently installed four DynaScan 65-inch high brightness LCDs in the store front window of its London flagship store. Located in the City of Westminster in the West End of London, the shop shits on the world famous Oxford Street, Europe’s busiest shopping street, which sees over 200 million visitors each year.

Shot by Rankin, French Connection produced a campaign video for the A/W 2013 season titled “From Sketch to Store” featuring outfits sketched over nude models.

French Connection wanted to be able to display the campaign video in its store front windows and needed to find a new display solution to accomplish it. The 42” LCDs the company already had on hand were too small – the models needed to appear as life-size as possible. At only 750 nits, the brightness of the previous screens was also a concern. As the campaign launched in late July, the displays also needed to be bright enough to be seen throughout the day during the long hours of sunlight.

The company started by working with previous digital display providers and looked at product solutions from manufacturers such as LG and Samsung. While the companies did offer large format displays (LFD) greater than 65”, these products didn’t solve the brightness issue. French Connection also considered stacking multiple super narrow bezel LCDs in a video wall configuration to achieve a larger screen area, however the associated costs with this far exceeded the budget constraints.

French Connection came into contact with UK-based audio visual solution provider and DynaScan channel partner, Pixelution (http://www.highbrightness.co.uk/), while researching high brightness display solutions online.

With French Connection’s requirements in mind, and taking into account the installation environment and accompanying sunlight, Pixelution suggested the DynaScan DS651LR4, a 65-inch professional high brightness LCD with a maximum brightness rating of 3,000 nits (cd/m²). The display features a local dimming LED back light for high contrast picture quality and low power consumption. To avoid disturbing customers the DS651LR4 utilizes a fanless thermal management system for continuously silent operation.

After seeing the performance of the displays, French Connection concluded the DynaScan displays were an ideal solution for the campaign, and worked with Pixelution to install four of the 65” high brightness LCDs. Vanessa Reynolds, graphic designer, windows & in store for French Connection, remarked on selecting the DynaScan screens, “The size was nearly as large as we required, the brightness was correct, and they were able to provide us with a four-screen solution at a price that fit our budget.”

The four screens are suspended from the ceiling in the store front windows facing out toward the busy Oxford Street pavement, and produce an image that can be seen both day and night. Small Brightsign USB based media players deliver high definition content to the displays and can be updated by the store associates as necessary.
