Bremerhaven Zoo in Germany has recently installed an outdoor LCD screen to ensure visitors get to see their latest arrival. A new polar bear girl called Lale was born at the zoo in March and she has spurred an increase in visitors – up 90,000 on the same period last year. To avoid disappointing the numerous visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the new arrival the zoo has installed high resolution cameras to transmit a live video feed of the bears to a large outdoor screen.

To ensure the screen was visible in all lighting conditions and to as many visitors as possible they chose the DynaScan DS72LT6 monitor. At 72″ and 5,000 nits of brightness it is the perfect choice for outdoor public displays. The screen is protected from the weather by a knoXbox protective enclosure which ensures a stable internal environment for the equipment. The housing is IP65 rated against water and dust and is temperature controlled by an internal HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system.

The system was provided by German integrator ide-tec KG.
