The Twin provides two computers in one 1U system - High Density Computing for Servers and Rendering.

The PixBox-1UTwin systems based on the latest high density computing solutions from Supermicro. Their products incorporate the most advanced hardware and software technologies to keep pace with the ever-changing demands presented by the massive amount of information in today's business world.

The 1U Twin™ is an innovative 1U rackmount system designed to increase computing density while reducing cost, energy and space requirements. With two systems (or two nodes) within a 1U space, the 1U Twin™ can support up to 16 processor cores (two systems each housing dual quad-core Xeon 5300/5400/5500 CPU's.

Costs are reduced by providing higher power efficiency. The placement of two nodes in 1U also reduces your chassis, power supply, and rack cost. In addition, the reduction in chassis investment also reduces the need for power cables and power strips. This provides simplified cabling, better air flow, and easier maintenance.

The 1U Twin’s layout and chassis design provides 2 Nodes in 1U and up to 84 nodes in a 42U standard rack, which significantly reduces IT space rental costs. For double the connectivity, each node also supports dual Gigabit ethernet or 10GbE ethernet or optional on-board Infiniband.

Please note that packing this much processing power into a 1U form factor requires plenty of cooling. These racks produce a level of noise that should be considered when planning their location within a working environment.

Each Twin system contains:

1 x 1U Rackmount chassis with a single PSU and rails.

Each Node within the system:

Dual Intel Xeon 5300/5400/5500 CPU's

5300/5400 8 x RAM slots with support from 32GB up to 64GB*
or
5500 12 x RAM slots with support for up to 48GB*

2 x 3.5" SATA or 4 x 2.5" SATA hot-swap drive bays*

Dual GbE ethernet ports or 10GbE or Infiniband*

Onboard VGA (optional Quadro graphics card available)

Dual USB 2.0 ports

Single low profile PCI-E x8 or x16 or x16 Gen2 slot*

The Twin systems have no standard PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse or floppy or optical drives. You will need USB devices to configure your system. We can provide an options pack containing Keyboard, mouse, KVM and Optical drive.
