Central qNAS storage at Berwick Street Post
Berwick Street Post are based in the heart of London's Post community in Soho. With multiple Avid suites, as well as Discreets' Flame and Smoke systems, they offer a range of services from DVD replication through to Film grading.
With an increase in Film work Berwick Street Post needed more storage. Adding direct attached storage to each machine can be cost effective but limits your investment to one suite. The volume of data moving between systems was increasing. The simplest way of moving this data was to burn it onto optical media but with the monthly budget for CD and DVD's reaching £80 this method was not only time consuming but wasteful on resources.
A central pool of storage accessible by all of the suites would improve workflow through the company and reduce media costs.
Having a long established working relationship
with Pixelution, Berwick Street Post contacted us to discuss the
available options. A qNAS server would provide the central
storage they required and handle data from all the different
systems (PC, Mac and SGI) seamlessly. A suitable capacity was
chosen and the system was built and delivered within a week. The
unit was installed in their machine room and connected to their
network. As it's network settings had been pre-configured before
delivery it was just a matter of switching it on and starting
work.
Immediately it was put to use taking in DPX files from external
FireWire and USB drives connected to a PC and Mac and from there
read into the Smoke suite for grading.
"I'd like to thank Pixelution for
putting up with our nightmare cabling."
